A structured U.S. pathway program for final-year Latin American medical students, offering clinical clerkships, research, coaching, and professional networking to strengthen their journey toward U.S. physician licensure.

Observership Program

Our Observership Program is designed for final-year medical students from Latin America, offering a unique opportunity to explore various medical specialties while gaining firsthand experience in the U.S. healthcare system. At the same time, students can complete their undergraduate internship requirements from their home medical school. During the program, participants will also begin preparing for either the USMLE Step 1 or Step 2, depending on their individual progress.

Monthly mentorship sessions with Dr. Arguelles and continuous academic and career support throughout the year.

Weekly on-site Q-Bank study groups to reinforce clinical knowledge and test-taking strategies.

Academic development: Students are required to submit at least two (2) research papers and present one abstract, strengthening their research and communication skills.

Clinical shadowing across multiple departments, including (but not limited to): Internal Medicine, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Pediatrics, Ophthalmology, Dermatology, Rheumatology, Hepatology, Oncology, Oncologic Emergency Medicine, Cardiology, General Surgery, and Anesthesiology.

Research Program

This program integrates meaningful research with community-focused initiatives, addressing key healthcare challenges within the Latino population—such as cultural and linguistic barriers. Designed for students in their medical school’s social service year, the program emphasizes academic development and preparation for the USMLE Step 2 through guided mentorship and scholarly activities.

Emphasis on producing high-quality systematic reviews and meta-analyses.

Participation in dynamic research groups, encouraging collaboration and academic excellence.

Application Process Overview

LATIMGS Academy is pleased to open the application cycle for the Undergraduate Observership Program, running from July 2025 through July 2026. This program offers Latin American medical students a unique opportunity to observe clinical environments in Houston and strengthen their preparation for the U.S. medical system.

  • Regular Deadline: July 15, 2025 (No applications will be accepted after this date)

Our admissions board will review your application to determine if it is complete. You will be notified via email if any additional documentation is required.

Notification Dates:

  • Early Bird Applicants: No later than July 15, 2025
  • Regular Applicants: No later than September 15, 2025

Partner Universities:
Pre-selection results will be shared with your institution. Final decisions will be communicated directly by your university.

Non-Partner Universities:
Final results will be sent individually to selected students.
